Rough Framing the Cargo Trailer Camper Conversion

We’re converting an enclosed cargo trailer so that the front half is an RV and the back half is a mobile workshop We’re going to travel the country when it’s finished helping subscribers with their DIY projects!

This week I finished framing the dividing wall and ran the rough electrical/plumbing. I ripped 2×6’s to create 1.5″ x 1.75″ studs that are thinner and lighter. I’ll be covering the walls in 1/8″ ply and the floor and ceiling in hardwood.

Finalizing the FLOOR PLAN | Cargo Trailer Camper Conversion

I use cardboard boxes and painters plastic to get a feel for the full size floor plan of the new cargo trailer camper conversion (we need a better name – leave your ideas in the comments).

I also used a meter to test how much water is used in a typical RV shower and washing the dishes. It looks like our planned 50 gallon tanks are going to work, but only give us about 3 days off grid.

ULTIMATE Mobile Workshop – PART 3 – Bandsaw Cabinet w/ Toggle Clamps

How to build a bandsaw cabinet on wheels with piano hinge doors. I used toggle clamps with e-track tie offs to secure it to the wall of the trailer when not in use.

Can Your Trailer Alarm Do This? Our Plan for Keeping the Workshop Secure

How to install an alarm system on an enclosed utility trailer with siren, brake lock, and text message notifications. We have the option of arming with either a keypad in the trailer or key fab outside.

Thank you Trailer-Alarms.com for putting this system together for us!

The install took about 8 hours, but we have more openings than the average trailer. Something I didn’t mention is that you can change the timing of the exit/entry and the sensitivity of the accelerometer.

ULTIMATE Mobile Workshop – PART 2 – V-Nose Workbench / Power Tool Cabinet

How to build a simple wall mounted workbench and cabinets for power tools. The V-nose of the Ultimate Mobile Workshop is going to serve as my main workbench. I used 2x4s and plywood to make a simple counter top and covered the wall in 1/2″ plywood to organize my hand tool holders.

The power tool cabinet above each of the two-way drawers uses grooves in plywood to allow you to fit any size tool you want. Simply move the dividers around to change the slot size from 4 inches up to 24 inches.

ULTIMATE Mobile Workshop – PART 1 – Two-Way Cabinet Drawers

How to build cabinets with two way drawer slides. I decided to start work on the miter saw and drill press station in the Ultimate Mobile Workshop. At each end of the bench are a set of cabinet drawers that can be accessed from inside or outside the trailer.

I used adjustable ball catches to keep the drawers locked in place and 3/8″ bolts in a groove as drawer stops. The bench height ended up a little higher than I would have wanted (39″) because of the layout of the trailer doors.

Sidenote: I was amazed how well paste wax worked to make wooden drawers slide smooth.

RV Tire Pressure Monitoring System Installation + SIMULATED LEAK!

More information about Tire Minder
www.minderresearch.com

With a long rig I knew we would want a tire pressure monitoring system. I did some research, and Tire Minder kept coming up again and again. After talking with the company, they sent us a whole system for the RV and trailer. The peace of mind is nice, since the trailer tires are 65′ back, and could potentially blow without noticing on a rig this size. Thank you Minder Research!

Uh, Yea…It’s Pretty BIG | Pre-Tour of Our New Trailer!!

The Ultimate Mobile Workshop trailer has been delivered! It turned out so much better than we could have hoped. Now we get to the fun part of building out the whole interior with benches, cabinets, and storage.

The biggest thank you to Lark United Manufacturing!

RV’s – The Ultimate Money Pit?

We we bought our Monaco Dynasty, we knew any RV would be a money pit. There are simply so many systems on an motorhome that something is bound to break semi-frequently. I guess we just weren’t quite prepared for the “never caught up” aspect of RVing.

Since buying our RV in the spring we’ve fixed the refrigerator, floor, hot water heater, roof and dash AC, stereo system, suspension bushings, and all fluids/belts. We can now add to that list a roof leak… Our total repairs so far have cost over $6800 dollars and we don’t even live in it yet!
