Great website. We follow MMM as well. We are reading up on homesteading and just went to Asheville NC to visit a few homesteads so it is great to see you are getting into it. It was awesome. Where in South Florida are you from? We live in Fort Lauderdale.
A more personal question–How do you like Sarasota FL?
I live in SoCal and I hear good things about Sarasota. (Except the 95% humidity that Mike mentioned.) SoCal is fantastic, but I would like to live in a less expensive environment.
Haha. We’re from Sarasota and hear good things about SoCal. Sarasota is definitely more affordable, and we do like it very much. There’s not too much going on besides the beach, though. The city definitely caters to an older crowd, so it’s pretty quiet. Most places close around 9pm.
Im Jose Luis from San Jose del Cabo, Baja California Mexico. I like you project. and congratulations for you blog and videos. My wife and I we just started last year our project for financial independence. At 31 years little later than you hahaha .
Will see what happens….
Love your channel and completely hooked, very inspiring. Hubby and I are in St. Petersburg. Would like to hear you speak locally……any upcoming events? Any thoughts on starting a like-minded focus group?
Haha. You would be correct. I added that after your comment yesterday, but I was still testing it before replying to you. I guess I accidentally made it live. It should be working though 🙂
thanks for making all the videos on money, I watched them all and they are great! Plus you’re such a nice couple!
I’ve been inspired to pursue an extremely early retirement goal. Because college is free where I live, and because I’ve been working a lot since high school and throughout college I will finish my M. Sc. (it’s like postgrad) degree next year, and around ?20.000 dollars in savings. It’s like inverse student debt!
But my question to you is: what resources do you recommend on investing? Mike said he has read a lot of books about investing, and I would like to read up a bit. Right now my plan is to invest it in a mix of index funds and bonds, and what got my interest is that in one video you said you have all your savings in index funds. Seems riskier but like you obviously know the risk is smaller over very long periods of time. Since I’m just 24 right now, I obviously have a lot of time to let my money work for me. Bonds also carry certain risk, and although it used to be unlikely governments defaulting on debts is happening at this very moment in Europe. So this is basically where my gap in knowledge lies, and I would love to hear some recommendations!
So cool you’re interested in investing and you have a great start! For a quick primer I would recommend you head over to Jim Collin’s stock series. As for books I liked “A Random Walk Down Wall Street” for investing, “The Millionaire Next Door” for inspiration and “Your Money or Your Life” for basic personal finance.
Hi Mike and Lauren, I’ve recently been watching your videos on youtube about investments and how to deal with your money. You guys have really influenced me to start thinking about investing and growing my money for the long run. I am 20 years old and would like to ask you a couple more questions on investments and specifically how it can grow in the future. Please email at Justinferrer62@gmail.com to tell you more about what information I would like to know. Thank you and have a wonderful day.
I was browsing finance videos and saw your 420k to retire video which really hit home for me. I`m 30 now and assets are at 415k as of today. At 23 I had no money to my name and enlisted in the military as a last resort. While in there for 6 years I put the overwhelming majority of my paycheck into TSP and Roth IRA. Then all of my grandparents passed away within two years of each other and my net worth nearly doubled via inheritance.
Haha. The world’s not so bad. When are you going to swing by Florida?
Hey you.
Nice meeting you guys on the tour of Barcelona. Have a great trip!!
Nice to meet you too. Safe travels.
Love following your trip! I think you guys need your own travel show, your posts are so fun! Safe travels to you!

We live in Sarasota. What did you take away from visiting Asheville? Do you homestead now?

I’m also standard retirement age.

Hey Tammy,
I just sent Ken an email. We’ll be in touch!
Just found your site (thanks to JL Collins!). I’ve subscribed to your YouTube channel, but… do you have a subscription available for web site updates?
Hey… I found the email subscription link … at the top of this page. I swear it wasn’t there yesterday!!! 🙂
